Sniper insecticide which is no longer a new name in Nigeria, has turned out to be the easiest way of committing suicide for depressed Nigerian youths, this led to a very harsh decision on the product by the federal government of Nigeria.

SNIPER  is a highly effective insecticide/miticide that controls over 30 foliar and soil borne pests.

More than 5 years now, sniper insecticide has been the number one choice for many Nigerian homes, because of it’s fast ability to eliminate mosquitoes and other insects.  Farmers has also testified the effectiveness of the product in securing their farm from pests.

According to many Nigerians, sniper insecticide in recent time, have caused more harm than good.   Sniper insecticide have killed no fewer than 8 people, including a young man identified as Segun, who also wanted to consumed a bottle of sniper on social media after getting a low score in the recently released university entry examination.

Due to the misuse of sniper insecticide, The federal Government of Nigeria directed that the product, be withdrawn from the open market and supermarkets with immediate effect.

Dr Husman Bukar, the Director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate, NAFDAC.   Also emphasized on the recent ban on sniper insecticide, he stated:

“Recently, some suicide cases have been associated with people drinking Sniper. Henceforth, we call on the agro-chemical industry to enhance their distribution channels so that this product (Sniper) gets to only accredited distributors and marketers,” he said

“We have also placed a ban on the manufacture of smaller packs of Sniper which are easily purchased for household use.” According to  Dr Husman Bukar, the Director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate, NAFDAC.


Sniper Precaution

Sniper insecticide may be fatal if swallowed. Causes substantial but temporary eye injury. Do not get in eyes or on clothing. Wear protective eye-wear(goggles, face shield, or safety glasses).

Note: Sniper insecticide can be Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through skin. Avoid breathing vapor or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum,using tobacco, or using the toilet. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
